Pre- Anasthetic Blood Test Consent Form
Like you, our greatest concern is the well being of your pet. Your pet is scheduled for anesthesia/ surgery and should do fine. We will perform a physical exam on your pet and this is included in your surgery fee. However, because no surgery is without some risk, it is adviseable to perform a Pre- Surgical/ Anesthesia blood examination and basic organ function test before surgery. This is to ensure your pet is in the lower risk category. Certain body organs, such as the liver and kidney, function in the elimination of surgical anesthesia. It is important to ensure the organs are functioning properly to decrease anesthetic risks.
These tests are similar to those your own physician would run if you were to undergo anesthesia. In addition, the results of these tests will serve as reference values for future use should your pet become ill.
Because heartworm diesease can cause a potential risk for anesthesia and surgery, we recommend a heartworm test prior to anesthesia if your dog has not been tested or is not on heartworm prevention.
